BMW 435i xDrive M-Sport convertible.
Im not really a fan of German cars these days and its not cause they are unreliable, expensive or any of that...its because they are determined to fill every niche and combine every type of car into one. The X6 is a good case study - its a 4 Door “coupe” SUV (sorry SAV) that has no business doing SUV things, or Coupe things. Its a do-all-do-nothing. You already know this and/or you like the X6...im not here to argue with you on that. The car in question though...to me at least...is even MORE confused than the X6.
I Image the product planning went something like this:
Management: The 4 series needs a convertible
Engineer: Oh for sure, lets do that for the sunny states and open top cruising
M: hmm, but people don’t like the insecurity of a cloth roof
E: no problem, we can do a folding hard top...it adds weight and complexity but this is a boulevarder so its no biggie.
M: Oh speaking of that, lets give it the big engine and sport suspension.
E: um...okay sure...why not? Its the ultimate driving machine right?
M: Oh, and make sure it has AWD...people need that.
E: Wait, what...its a convertible and...
M: Yeah...AWD for the winter time
E: Okay....
M: And only an automatic transmission...cause the manual doesn’t work here.
E: {audible sigh} sure...no problem.
M: Say, is there any chance you could add two doors and make it an SUV?

It’s the perfect car for a Norwegian single male mate.. Convertible for the 2 weeks we have summer? CHECK.. Big Engine and sporty suspension for those twisty roads? CHECK.. AWD for the winter? CHECK. Automagic since we’ll be stuck in traffic most of the time? CHECK..
I see nothing wrong with it, should’ve been a diesel though.

I thought the only BMW more confused than the X6 was BMW Global Headquarters

I’m kind of surprised that they didn’t make it another four door coupe.

BMW’s been doing the hardtop convertibles for 8 years now, and just like almost every other car they make it has the option of all wheel drive. I don’t understand the confusion - it’s the top-spec non-M4 4-Series one can buy.

This one actually makes sense to me, but I’m a BMW whore. I see the use in a convertible that can be driven at all times of the year.

As a convertible-enthusiast Wisconsinite, this car makes total sense to me.
